Gevrey-Chambertin is an appellation created in 1936,although viticulture here goes back to at least the Romans,for red wines only made of the pinot noir grape from the commune of the same name and the neighbouring commune of Borchon on the Cote de Nuits.This is the northern section of the Cote d’Or in Burgundy. There are eight Grands Crus, all of them red. They are: Mazis-Chambertin, Ruchottes-Chambertin, Chambertin Clos-de-Beze, Chapelle-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Le Chambertin, and Latricieres-Chambertin.There are also 26 premier crus. Gevrey-Chambertin is a very prestigious Burgundy wine and it was also Napoleon Bonaparte's favourite wine. The Chambertin name was appended to the Gevrey village name in the 19th century
