Flagey-echezeaux on Snooth

A special occasion on the part of the server. How can I describe old Burgundies without a strong background in them? Barnyard qualities for sure (smelled like an outhouse) with cheese notes on the palate. Nice, lasting...

Mongeard Mugneret Grands Echezeaux 1983

Starting at $100.00 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

THIS MAY HAVE BEEN THE BEST RED BURGUNDY I HAVE EVER HAD. BEST DESCRIPTION I CAN GIVE THIS BEAUTY IS THAT IT IS LIKE DRINKING PURE LIQUID SILK! I KNOW IT IS EXPENSIVE, BUT GET A FEW FRIENDS TO CHIP IN AND BUY A BOTTLE,...

Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux 2001

Starting at $198.95 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Tasted with Etienne Grivot from an untouched bottle in the cellar. Stunning nose for meditation. Right at its peak.

From a different planet. Huge palate staining black juice. Tastes and smells of asian spices and reduced soy sauce. Delicious stuff, just not classic burg.

Robert Jayer-Gilles Echezeaux du Dessus 1993

Starting at $135.00 Snoothrank: 4/5

A bit unbalanced and chunky for good burgundy. Over-extracted and on the oaky side. Still a drink I wouldn't say no to though.

Robert Jayer-Gilles Echezeaux du Dessus 1991

Starting at $85.00 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

Perhaps it was my bottle (which had a fill just shy of the cork and perfect color), but a bit dried out and over the hill. Still a tremendous nose, but drying on the palate.
