Aged for only fours years, the wine exhibited unparalleled complex, diverse and bold flavors. Hints of berries, smoke and wood made for a silky and smooth taste. The long, fruity finish, higher acid and tannin levels and strong, vibrant scents all blended nicely to produce a superior and satisfying full-bodied red wine.    (hide)

  Domaine Tortochot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2001

  Really nice Pinot Noir. As you would expect it pours quite thinly and has a slight brown hue to it. Big favours of chaerry and raspberry with an added sharp acidic kick at the end. Pity I only have the one bottle of it really.

Read moreI spent New Year's and the following week-end at my grandfather's house. Sadly ... over-the-hill 1976 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru somewhere along the way. If anyone out there still has any 1970s wines out there, there is no excuse not to drink them in 2009. I can't think of anything (besides 1977 vintage port) that isn't dying a slow death in the cellars by now. Now I am back at home and it is time to resume drinking "normal" wines    (hide)

  Domaine Armand Rousseau Pere et Fils Charmes-Chambertin 1998

  Stawberry, blueberry, smoky, dark brown sugar, vanilla custard -super wine with a little zing but much smoother than NZ style Pinot. Worth three times the price though? Not sure.

Grand Vins de Bourgogne, Chapelle-Chambertin Red Burgundy 2004 no producer but a very good vineyard in a classic vintage 2011-2020 4. Pighin Friuli Pinot Grigio 2005 Light and aromtaic style of Pinot Grgigio to be drunk on release, that means today 5. Grands Vins de Bourgogne, Puligny-Montrachet, White Still Wine 1997 Another solid white burg one would guess but a producer would help 6. Chateau Pichon Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, Pauillac Bordeaux, 2001 Classic Bordeaux, great producer and vintage 2014-2030 7. Grand Cru Classe, Cos D' Estourne Bordeaux 2002 Another calssic wine but even more rugged than the Lalande though without the balance of the Pichon 2010-2020    (hide)
