The Côte Chalonnaise is a wine zone in the Burgundy region in France. It’s located in the Châlon-sur-Saône, which in early Gallic history, was a site where wine that was shipped upstream was offloaded and delivered inland. While vineyards in neighboring Beaune and Mâconnais are more concentrated and close together, the Chalonnaise vineyards are scattered with other agricultural sites amongst its rolling landscape. The vineyards here happen to be strategically placed in the areas with the most limestone-rich soils, which provide the most acid balance and structure in the grapes. The summers in the Chalonnaise are warm and dry, perhaps drier than neighboring areas owing to the slightly more elevated landscape, with cold winters.

The wines from Côte Chalonnaise were once considered Burgundy bargains for their lower prices and consistently good quality when compared to more prestigious appellations. However, prices are now about the same as other Read more »

Côte Chalonnaise on Snooth

  • Montagny Premier Cru "La Grande Roche" Louis Latour Chalonnaise Wit 2010

    Snoothrank:

Nice white burgundy. Crisp, tart with plenty of citrus, lemon, some spice and a nice bit of acidity. There is a slight bit of a metallic edge but all in all a good chard for the price. Read More

  • Domaine Ragot Givry Blanc Champ Pourot France Burgundy 2010

    Snoothrank:

Lovely, like Meursault but with less pronounced acidity, this wine shows lovely purity and style. Flavors abound and include sweet milk, ripe Cameo apple and a sliver of honeycomb. The medium-plus finish suggests this has a ways to go. Drink now to 2016. Read More

  • Vincent Dureuil-Janthial Meix Cadot Vieilles Vignes Premier Cru Rully 2006

    Snoothrank:

I'm a big Vincent Dureuil-Janthial wine enthusiast . I still have a few bottles of this vintage 2006 of his white Rully upscale. For this bottle, I was surprised by the progress notes (nuts) primarily at the nose. Fortunately, they had virtually disappeared the next day. The wine is opulent here. He kissed his door with its high 14 °. More about ... Read More

I bought this bottle of wine from my local supermarket where it was on special offer for £7.99.Blasson [www.blasson.com] is a large co-operative that operates in southern Burgundy and this is one of their top wines made only from vines over 35 years old.The Montagny appellation was created in 1936 and is for white wines made from the chardonnay ... Snoothrank:

08 MONTAGNY A.C. LE CLOUClos Salomon , White Wine, 750mlDid you know that Montagny only produces white wines? Yes - only white, so they should know how to do it right. Should - but, frankly, it's often boring. And we don't want boring, do we! But you never get boring from Clos Salomon. Never! This Montagny is aromatically enticing and delights t... Read More

  • Clos Salomon Givry Premier Cru Clos Salomon 2009

    Snoothrank:

Overt pastis and kirsch liqueur aromas figure prominently on the nose with freshly turned earth lurking underneath. Seemingly polished on the nose, the lightly chunky tannins show this bottling is a few wipes short of being perfectly polished, which lends additional charm and authenticity. Read More

  • Chateau de Chamirey Mercurey Rouge 2009

    Snoothrank:

Mercury is one of the great unsung hero's of Burgundy. It sports a handful of Premier Crus such as Les Reulles (a monopole) and when in the hands of a great producer like Chamirey or Faivley, it makes wines of supreme value. As the nose opens up after a little air you're greeted by plums and cherries with hints of earthiness creeping in. Those ... Read More

  • Jean Chartron Bourgogne Blanc Clos Combe 2007

    Snoothrank:

White flowers on the nose, lemon curd, bright, pretty citrus, marshmallow and candy. On the palate, toasty and pretty candied notes. White flavors, but rather austere fruit.88 ptsFrance vs. US Blind Tasting 6/15/12 Read More

  • Bourgogne Blanc Clotilde Davenne 2009

    Snoothrank:

The texture seems to indicate oak aging but there is none. A bit of honeyed cream with hints of mineral and smoke. Summer wine? This is awesome with one of my favorite picnic foods, delived eggs sprinkled with a bit of smoky paprika! Try it with your favorite recipe. I like to garnish them with a bit of ice cold lump crabmeat for an extra treat. Read More
