  • Yes, the age-worthiness of Burgundy was on full display last night. Hope to find some more from '82, '78, etc.Aligote was very nice. Have also had a good one by Hubert Lignier. It's definitely Chardonnay light, but I enjoy it when taken seriously, though the grape has really suffered from neglect in Burgundy since phylloxera. There used to be pl... Read More

  • Duncan, even over here there are good Loire reds for under $20, sometimes as low as $14 or $15, which was like 10-12 Euros for a while there.  I also really enjoy the sparkling Vouvrays, which often drop to about $15.  To my mind, better than low end Champagne or Cremant de Bourgogne, but then again, I'm more of a chenin fan than a chardonnay fa... • Little known by most wine consumers, Saint Bris is an unusual wine that seems to break the rules of tradition in Bourgogne. Most Bourgogne lovers are seduced by the beauty of barrel fermented Chardonnay from the finer AOPs of Meursault, Chassagne Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet.
