Morgon is one of the crus of Beaujolais. Like the other crus, it’s located in the hilly vineyards of northern Beaujolais. The area produces dense, long-lived wines that can approach the quality of red Burgundy. An especially excellent vineyard in Morgon is the Cote de Py.

  • Started off fairly mild and boring, but a couple days after I pulled the cork ... punch I'm used to with Morgon. Low tannins and fairly dry, I would drink it again but decant it for about 1 hour firs Read More

  • QUOTEI'm not sure your statement about most French wine regions are ... ... only red grape allowed in Morgon (And probably some other Beaujolais cru as well). Morgon is allowed to grow about 3 or 4 whites though (Chardonnay, Aligote and maybe Pinot Gris).Pouilly Fume (Loire Valley) is only allowed Sauvignon Blanc and some Chasselas.Regarding y... • Jonderry - This is only my 3rd Morgon, but the best yet by far was the JP Brun 2013. The other two were so similar it's like they came from the same vineyard. I don't think I could tell them apart side by side. Read More

  • Another Morgon from a good vintage with less than stellar results. Actually, 2011 is supposed to be as good as it gets for Beaujolais. Keep trying different producers I suppose... Read More

  • Just another Morgon. Virtually identical to the JE Descombes. Ripe strawberry for sure. Maybe some cranberry and red cherry. Hard to say because it disappears quickly on the palate. The aroma was almost more enjoyable than drinking it. Tannins aren't too bad though. Easy drinking and a bit lackluster. Still looking forward to the Fleurie.  Read More

  •  It's good. I love the color. Deep, rich burgundy red. Hard to see all ... ... and red grape. The last Morgon I tried had a nice dose of smoke. This one does not, but still enjoyable, approachable and safe. Low tannins makes for easy drinking. I'll keep at this one over the next couple days and see if I can get something else out of it.&nbs Read More

  • Good points.BTW - that Morgon by JP Brun is a really good place to start. Good wine. And it ages.France is a good place to start, but it's not the be all and end all, nor is Bordeaux or Burgundy. In fact, there are many places in France that are far more interesting than either of those and that can keep you occupied for the rest of your life. N... Read More

  • Thanks so much for the response. However, not quite the answer I was hoping ... Gamay. My first bottle was a Morgon Jean Paul Brun. My friends and I enjoyed it very much on New Years Eve.Thanks again for your thoughtful response and suggestions. Looking forward to an amazing 2015 and my venture into a deeper discovery of wine.&nbs Read More
