Morgon is one of the crus of Beaujolais. Like the other crus, it’s located in the hilly vineyards of northern Beaujolais. The area produces dense, long-lived wines that can approach the quality of red Burgundy. An especially excellent vineyard in Morgon is the Cote de Py.

Morgon on Snooth

  • Louis Vergé Morgon "Les Pierres Fines" 2007

    Snoothrank:

Bright cherry color, aromas of black cherries and wet stone, palate notes of grape juju fruits with chalk dust supported by moderate acid, to a short finish. It needs a picnic basket. Read More

  • Daniel Bouland Morgon 2008

    Snoothrank:

Beautifully perfumed bouquet of blueberry, blackberry and violets with a touch of smoke on the nose. Textured and subtle this offering sails across the palate with layers of blue fruit, chalk, salt and just a dash of citrus culminating in a persistent and meaty finish. As satisfying as this cuvee presently is it is still quite young in the bot... Read More

  • Morgon Chateau des Jacques 2008

    Snoothrank:

Smooth, light, dry, but pretty short on the finish for me. I cleaned my pallete with a cracker just to be sure that there wasn't some kind of interference from dinner lingering. I don't drink much wine like this (French or light reds, in general), so take my critique accordingly. I can see this wine being adequate (or perhaps more than adequa... Read More

  • Louis Vergé Morgon "Les Pierres Fines" 2007

    Snoothrank:

Trader Joe's purchase, 13% alcohol, $5.99. No mention of Beaujolais or Gamay, ... what else could it be from Morgon? Perhaps it is classified as "Vins de Table de France." Light reddish-purple color. Distinct strawberry and noticeable schist. Faint cherry, plum, yeast. The taste presents some fleshy strawberry and tart cherry; other light frui... Read More

  • Morgon Chateau des Jacques 2008

    Snoothrank:

This is a pleasant and affordable Beaujolais. My biggest gripe with the grape is that it seemed a touch to watered-down for my taste. Perhaps I made the mistake of pairing this wine with a New York Strip. Next time I'll try it with chicken or perhaps turkey for Thanksgiving.Still, the wine is smooth and enjoyable. Read More
