Morgon is one of the crus of Beaujolais. Like the other crus, it’s located in the hilly vineyards of northern Beaujolais. The area produces dense, long-lived wines that can approach the quality of red Burgundy. An especially excellent vineyard in Morgon is the Cote de Py.

Morgon on Snooth

  • Lapierre Morgon 2007

    Snoothrank:

Morgon produces rich, earthy wine that can easily be mistaken for Burgundy. Lapierre is a great biodynamic producer. This offers up notes of beet roots, dusty earth, anise and aggressive herb and medicinal notes. With a very light, natural and elegant in the mouth this is refreshing but quite herbal and almost vegetal on the palate with a decid... Read More

  • Thevenet Morgon 2007

    Snoothrank:

Regnie is the youngest Cru of Beaujolais, dating from 1988 but is part of the historic home of Beaujolais. This has superb aromatics with balsamic, candlewax tones almost verging on eucalyptus with a roast meaty edge and layers of intense and complex violet pastille and wild berry fruits. This smells like old vines. This has big weight but is n... Read More

  • Lapierre Morgon 2007

    Snoothrank:

Marcel Lapierre is perhaps the 'big' star of the Morgon region, certainly the maker of some of the appellations most interesting wines. He has a great reverence for the terroir, that he faithfully expreseses with natural, traditional winemaking. Minimal sulphur, fining and filtration is the norm here - the wines are complex, but express the s... Read More

  • Morgon 'Corcelettes' 2005

    Snoothrank:

Les Corcelettes is one of the terroirs of the Morgon AOC - Morgon makes powerfully built wines, full of red fruit - fleshy, generous, ageing to complex kirsch, fig, fungus. 2005 is a great vintage, Popel who love burgundy, haven't learnt to love beaujolais, or just want to discover a fantastic regions dinstinctive wines could do no worse than ... • Domaine Bulliat-Morgon 2005

    Snoothrank:

This is a cracking bottle - I've worked there, and can personally testify to the quality of this domaine, their vineyards and their wines. The vines are worked in a very sympathetic manner, the wines made gently. No price is too much for a wine with this much spirit and expression. 7/5 Read More

  • Jean-Paul Thevenet Morgon Vieilles Vignes 2006

    Snoothrank:

This wine needed to breathe quite a bit. The first hour it seemed disjointed ... to change and it became more Morgon-ish. Good balance with that uber-juicy fruit, peach, and violets/floral.Ah, and I just noticed this was a Lynch win Read More

  • Desvignes Morgon 2006

    Snoothrank:

My goal for May has been to only drink Beaujolais - something I don't drink ... ... had it in a while. This Morgon has a puzzling nose with notes of violet, tiny bits of menthol, and something I can't put a finger on... peach? peach snapple iced-tea? Puzzling. The color is darker than the Villages example I had earlier and skews more towards pr... Read More
