  • Château les Ormes de Pez Red Bordeaux Blend St. Estèphe 2008

Süsser schwarzer Frucht may well describe the nose, but I would say that sweet red fruit is equally present. The entry is very St. Estèphe, however, with medicinal herb, earth and cranberry (acid). This wine is typical for the region in my experience with residual tannin to age a bit further. Great with food. 89 points. Read More

  • Chateau Lilian Ladouys 2010

This wine was given some great scores by the press although it didn't show any quality upon my tasting. Only slightly tannic and deeply colored, though it lacked fruit. Nice cedar nose. Overpriced. My rating 83. Read More

  • Château Calon-Ségur 2006

The 2006 edition of this esteemed Grand Cru seems ready for drinking - the nose is oriented toward cassis and cedar with a hint of raw sugar and evokes something very traditionally feminine - like dresses packed with old flowers. On the palate, there is good purity of flavour with some root, metal and tea tannin along with a good dose of sweet ... Read More

  • Chateau Lavillotte Saint-Estephe 2001

I bought this bottle of wine from the website ... for £10.Saint Estephe is the northernmost AOC in the Medoc and was created in 1936 although viticulture goes back to at least Roman times. There is more clay in the soil than the other Medoc AOC's which tends to help the vine in drier years. Chateau Lavillotte is an 11 hectare estate that has ... Read More

  • Château Lafon-Rochet 2012

Stone on the nose and maybe a little moss and hints of grinding coffee beans all embedded fine floral notes and subtle crushed berry fruit. This is firing on all cylinders, it's perhaps a touch lean or dilute but fresh with firm but well judged wood tannins, a bit soft on the backend this lacks the focus and snap of the best of the vintage but do... • Cos Labory St Estephe 2009

Very perfumed and rich with minerals and lots of brushy, dry fruit topped with nuanced smoke notes on the nose. Bright, focused, austere and classically Bordeaux on entry with great fruit on the palate. This is a little nervous in the mouth, with bright red fruits and grapey nuance underpinned by powerful, ripe, if small tannins. Finishes with g... Read More

  • Phelan Segur 2012

Pretty on the nose, and while the oak is a bit prominent, this has lovely nuanced herbal and nutty, almost cooked vegetable beet root and parsnip aromas. Tight and light on entry, there's terrific substance here but you really have to coax it out, there is great vibrancy to what is here, and it comes of as very classic, and while it probably won... • Chateau le Boscq 2008

For 2008, Chateau le Boscq has produced a patent-like St-Estephe with the usual tobacco, cassis and cedar notes on the nostrils with a relatively tame entry of light tannins, blackcurrant and cigar. Good medium finish Drink now. 88 points. Read More

  • Attempting to gauge the value of 1982 St. Estephe (Chateau Montrose) that has no guarantees of proper handling over its lifetime. Any thoughts. GRIK
