Pomerol Wine

Pomerol is a commune on the right bank of the Dordogne, in Bordeaux. Most of the producers here are relatively small. Merlot is the most important variety here, followed by Cabernet Franc. The commune is the home of Ch. Petrus. Interestingly, Pomerol has refused any official ranking or classification of its wines.

Pomerol on Snooth

  • Gazin 2010

    Snoothrank:

Subtle on the nose with aromas of dried flowers, fresh fruit, leather, oak, and dried herb seeds come together not he rather classic nose. Lighter styled in the mouth and both fresh and elegant with nice purity to the fruit which has a nice mineral overlay on the palate. The tannins really emerge on the backend, this is not a big wine but a comp... Read More

  • Clinet 2012

    Snoothrank:

Toasty oak, nutty oak, nuanced oak greets the nose layered over black plummy fruit and coffee/mocha notes. This is fairly bright on entry, then it turns a little compressed in the mouth, a bit tight but verging on elegant on the palate. There's some attractive fruit here but it lacks a bit of height in the mouth, though it does show some attrac... Read More

  • Chateau la Croix de Gay 2010

    Snoothrank:

Perfumy, quite floral and rich on the nose with some darkish fruit that's carrying some obvious oak but it's pretty well integrated but still a bit new worldly. Smooth, fairly powerful and quite dark in the mouth, this has some deep, almost over extracted but still quite fresh wild berry fruit in the mouth. the fruit is a bit front loaded and th... • La Conseillante 2012

    Snoothrank:

Tobacco and briar and oily wood on the nose then coffee beans and rusty red fruit add layers and detail. Elegant and fine in the mouth, with fresh fruit of modest scale underpinned by mineral and dried herb, herb stem character. This has very fresh tannins, a pretty fresh wine overall that is elegant with good fruit on the palate. It does finish... Read More

  • Chateau Viaud Lalande Pomerol 2001

    Snoothrank:

Red-burgundy. Nose: berry, farm and a bit of leather strap. Heavenly! Very drinkable and pleasurable. Dark berry, raspberry, farm, leather, limestone flavours accentuated by a warmth that I enjoy in the Grand Vin de Bordeaux. There is a hint of wood, of some kind, as well (perhaps charred oak or cedar). Long finish. Great on its own but would be... Read More

  • Château Garraud Lalande-de-Pomerol 2008

    Snoothrank:

Decent Bordeaux from Pomerol. Smoothness provided by the merlot with a bit of spice from the cab franc. There's a touch of green vegetable and mustiness but this is receding with some air time. Not overly complex but there is some nice dark fruit, decent acidity and fairly tame tannins. Read More
