Pomerol Wine

Pomerol is a commune on the right bank of the Dordogne, in Bordeaux. Most of the producers here are relatively small. Merlot is the most important variety here, followed by Cabernet Franc. The commune is the home of Ch. Petrus. Interestingly, Pomerol has refused any official ranking or classification of its wines.

  • I think that Indian food with wines is an interesting combination. All those ... Particularly remembered a Pomerol he nad used to pair with his lamb korma. Don't exactly recall the label, but it was something that was quite fruity and well scented. The me today would surely have properly taken notes of that bottle and added a review.I had also... • I have just finished a superb bottle of claret. It was a Chateau La Croix du Casse Pomerol from 1993. It was over 20 years old but it was just exquisite and I wrote up a review on here,Soft and silky tannins but still well structured and plenty of blackcurrant and plum fruit with a suggestion of vanilla Read More

  • Chateau la Croix du Casse Pomerol 1993

    Snoothrank:

This bottle was in a lot I bought on the www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/85473. The Pomerol appellation was created in 1936,although winemaking here goes back to at least medieval times, for red wines from the commune of that name near the town of Libourne on the right bank of the Bordeaux region. The commune is only about 3 square miles and h... • Gazin Pomerol 2006

    Snoothrank:

One can be cynical in many things, but not about Pomerol;this fine property produces a fine result for the 2006 vintage with a bouquet redolent of a bed of fir branches, cranberries, and wild (unfarmed) cherries. The entry shows the pedigree of Merlot with the panoply of red fruit and soft finish. A very fine wine. 92. Read More

  • Chateau Plince 2013

    Snoothrank:

This modest Pomerol actually performed well in this much maligned vintage (2013); the nose has an attractive scent of plum and a hint of sweet cherry with a moderately tannic entry (but eminently drinkable now) and a nice cherry effect on the palate plus a little grit and wet loam. Not bad at all, if simple. The flavour profile probably reflec... Read More

  • Many years ago I was in my favorite wine shop here in Staten Island, NY and ... NY and looked at a bottle of Pomerol. One of the owners came over to me and said, "You should try that one with fish." A red bordeaux with fish? No way! But I then thought about it and decided to give it a try. Wow, he was right - It WAS pretty good with fish! Whod... Read More
