The Cotes de Francs, also referred to as Bordeaux Cotes de Francs, is an appellation that is located on the “right bank” of the Dordogne, roughly between St-Emilion and Bergerac and directly next to the satellite appellations of Puisseguin-St-Emilion and Lussac-St-Emilion. The wines are a bit on the rustic side and are dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec playing a supporting role. Interestingly, growers there are also allowed to make traditional sweet white wines under the Bordeaux Cotes de Francs Liquoreux appellation. These are unique wines made from overripe Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Muscadelle grapes.
