The Sainte-Foy Bordeaux appellation was created in 1937,although there has been viticulture here for centuries, originally for sweet white wines but subsequently extended to dry whites and reds. The wines are from 4 communes around the medieval fortified village of Sainte-Foy-la-Grande. The village is named after an early Christian martyr and is located 20 miles east of Saint Emilion at the very eastern edge of the Bordeaux wine region. It is one of the smaller and less fashionable Bordeaux appellations
