Bordeaux Superieur has a higher minimum alcohol content than Bordeaux AC by about half a degree. Frequently (though not always), the wines are in fact better and can improve over the course of a year or two.

  • Chateau de Brondeau Bordeaux Superieur 2012

Inviting, concentrated strawberry and raspberry aromas with vanilla and sweet baking spice notes. Pleasant and approachable on the palate with cranberry, raspberry and cherry fruit, candied and medium-full on the palate, this turns earthy and toasted towards the finish with lots of smoke and burnt espresso. • Chateau Pey la Tour Reserve du Chateau 2010

The 2010 Reserve du Chateau is a very good bottle of juice; the nose conjures up dried cherries and wet (black) earth, and the entry is very smooth with ample vanilla and tannin mid-palate. The flavour profile is dominated by cherry and perhaps some plum; finish is also quite long - although some stem intrudes - though not to great detriment of... Read More

  • Grand Vin de Reignac Bordeaux Superieur 2012

Freshly light aromas of red currant and raspberry still showing a dusty earth and some floral notes. Tart and medium bodied in the mouth with more red fruit notes of cherry, currant and raspberry jam, drying out through the midpalate with drying tannins and dark earth, and finishing with a hint of medicine and vanilla. • Chateau l'Isle Fort Bordeaux Superieur 2010

This is just gorgeous on the nose with savory notes of dark plum, molasses and brown sugar, with dark blackberry jam, gamey notes of soy sauce and a hint of moist earth. Warm and full bodied in the mouth, this has the perfect interplay of juicy black currant and blackberry with more herbal notes of tobacco leaf, wet hay and spice with clove and ... Read More

  • Chateau Mirambeau-Papin Bordeaux Superieur 2010

Nicely spiced and oaked, this is herbal and earthy in the glass, showing dark black currant and bramble fruit with hints of licorice. Tartly focussed in the palate, and shifting to more red fruit flavors of cranberry, raspberry and herbal notes of licorice, this has a pleasant tannic chew and a ripe finish with cream and dark chocolate. • Had several wines from this region while in France, and particularly enjoyed the Chateau Saint Antoine 2005 vintage. Fruitier than some from the region but mellow as well. Still experimenting with these wines . .
