Bordeaux Controlée, a.k.a. Bordeaux AOC, is an appellation covering wines produced all over the Bordeaux region of France. These are wines that are not produced from grapes grown exclusively in the specific AOCs such as Margaux or Pomerol, but are either sourced from a variety of different vineyards or use different grape blends and aging methods otherwise not permitted within the other AOCs. These are considered the Bordeaux bargain wines, and in most cases, lack the aging potential and grace of more prestigious appellations. However, in the right hands, these can still be excellent values with good flavor structure.

The grapes consist of all the regional grapes, produced as single varietal releases or in blends. For reds, these are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Carmenère, and Petit Verdot. For whites, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscadelle, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Mauzac, and Ondenc. Styles include dry reds, whites, and rosé and the Read more »

  • Chateau du Procureur Bordeaux 2009

    Snoothrank:

Nose is quite acidic, and pretty dry on the palate. But what impressed me is how this wine actually unravels its layers of flavor as it stays on! Read More

    Snoothrank:

We were served this wonderful wine with our dinner at Monacacy Crossing Restaurant near Frederick, MD. This wine was delicious from the first taste and went well with our dinners of steak and veal. We hope we can find it here in Montgomery County, MD, as we would like to purchase some. Read More

  • Château le Pradier 2006

    Snoothrank:

I am surprised to see such a low rating - *** only for this wine, vintage 2006 won a Silver medal at Vins d'Aquitaine Concours de Bordeaux in 2007. Almost every year this wine wins some kind of Award / Medal at top level International Wine Fairs. Of course it is not a fancy Cru class wine, but at it's AOC class level it shines, in my opinion.I ... Read More

  • Château Florie Aude France Red Merlot Still Bordeaux Aoc 2009

    Snoothrank:

You can't buy a better Bordeaux for the price. Color: deep dark ruby red. Aroma: (my nose is not the best) plum, black cherry, something darker (sorry). Taste: Big but smooth, quite dry, not astringent at all. I taste plums, berries, a little oak. The rating is based on how good the wine is and how good the price is. Read More
