  The Vignalta is a lovely wine. I've bought it many times for friends and family ... to fully ripening the Bordeaux varieties and I find that the Merlot and Cabernet Franc rival some of the best in Italy. I will see if I get a chance to try wines from La Mincana

Nebbiolo based Italian ... valpolicella, and any sturdy Bordeaux like St. Estephe, St. Julien, Margaux, Paulliac, etc. Good American cabs or bordeaux blends can stand up to time too. Reds are a far safer bet than whites because those vary so much and it's always iffy unless you really know the type, region and producer. Sweet or fortified whites are the exception. Provenance needs to be considered as involving more than just how/where bottles are stored--instead, where and how are they sourced, in every sense of the word. Having worked in the past with people trying to establish and ensure entrusted e-commerce systems, I'm now thinking there might be a place in the future for systems to ensure entrusted provenance for premium wines... ;-    (hide)

  Chateau Malescasse 2004

  great nose, oaky, but beautiful fruit, tannic, good acidity, and positively bordeaux. almost seems like a Pauillac. Let this one age for 3-8 years, or decant for several hours, a bit racey, but wonderful juice here!

Moving away from France, I've heard Australian Hunter Valley Sémillon can age nicely, and is at its best with about ten years of bottle age.
