The Coquimbo Valley is a region that encompasses the Elqui, Limarí and Choapa Valleys in northern Chile. The low altitude area is very hot and dry, close to the Atacama desert.

Most of the grapes in the region are harvested for the distillation of Pisco, the national brandy. However, some quality wine production has emerged in recent years thanks to modern irrigation and rock-clearing for plantings in places with higher altitudes into the Andes.

Red wines are produced mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Whites from Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

  • Tabali Reserve Carmenere Limari 2006

    Snoothrank:

Tabali Reserve Carmenere 2006My impression: It really surprised me its exquisite complexity, founded on the contradiction of the clash between a first pepperish contact with a chocolate end, which evokes the casks of French Oak where they lodged for one year. Agreeable meeting with the vineyard Tabalí, which sublimated the simplicity of a "cazu... Read More

  • Maycas del Limari Syrah 2005

    Snoothrank:

Very floral on the nose with a precise core of lightly smoky raspberry fruit backed up with a touch of buttery oak, wild blueberries and herbs. In the mouth the tannins here are super-fine giving the wine a lovely density. The flavors are sharp with notes of wild raspberry, wild cherry and tobacco. This retains an elegant feel with lovely purity... Read More

  • Maycas del Limari Chardonnay 2007

    Snoothrank:

Clear on the nose with a subtle biscuit notes over mineral and citrus oil fruit tones. An integrated smokiness does emerge with air but it remains quite restrained. Lovely freshness in the mouth, full of bright acids supporting fresh, ripe orchard fruits with a touch of melon. This is very well balanced with a surprisingly elegant mid-palate ful... Read More
