The Coquimbo Valley is a region that encompasses the Elqui, Limarí and Choapa Valleys in northern Chile. The low altitude area is very hot and dry, close to the Atacama desert.
Most of the grapes in the region are harvested for the distillation of Pisco, the national brandy. However, some quality wine production has emerged in recent years thanks to modern irrigation and rock-clearing for plantings in places with higher altitudes into the Andes.
Red wines are produced mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Whites from Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

  • Mayu Carmenere-Syrah 2012

Smoke and berries. 55% Carmenere and 45% Syrah coming from Chile's Elqui valley make this a juicy wine, full ripe red and black fruit and waves of smoked meat (think roasting a whole pig). The sun is very intense in Elqui, so the skins on these grapes are actually considerably thicker than in other part of Chile. This adds to the smokey, spicine... Read More

  • Mayu Pedro Ximenez 2012

Typically seen as sweet Sherry, this is one of the first dry Pedro Ximenez wines coming from South America. Mayu PX maintains a refreshing acidic edge while coming across as luscious and extremely refreshing. This is like nothing I had tasted before and is definitely worth a sip. If you like Torrontes, Alberino, or any other obscure whites, give... Read More
