Central Valley Wine

Valle Central, or Central Valley, is a large expanse of Chile that is one of the most significant wine producing regions in South America. It starts with the Maipo Valley around Santiago, all the way to the Maule Valley. There are many different types of terroirs and microclimates within it, as well as styles of viticulture from old school to modern.

Valle Central is divided into four subregions, from north to south (and warmest to coolest):
*Maipo, the country’s most historic region, planted since the 16th century and home to the country’s oldest existing wineries. Closest to the capital Santiago.
*Rapel Valley, home to the famous Colchagua and Cachapoal subregions.
*Curico Valley, pioneered in the 1970s by Miguel Torres and his disciples of modern viticulture.
*Maule Valley, one of the most prolific wine-producing regions in all of South America.

Most wines labeled as Central Valley or Valle Central can come from anywhere within these subregions Read more »

Central Valley on Snooth

  • Casillero del Diablo Carmenere Reserva Central Valley Chile 2015

    Snoothrank:

Nicely herbed aromas of green pepper alongside ripe cherry and strawberry aromas and a touch of black pepper spice. This is fresh and lively on the palate, good acidity with tart red fruit flavors of cherry and cranberry, medium-full bodied with a finish of earthy chocolate and black coffee. Read More

  • Depends on our definition of reasonable. QPR?Pinot fruit is more expensive to ... ... don't grow PN in the central valley because it's too hot a climate so no cheap mass production vineyards are available. With that said, Pinot Noir is one of the most misrepresented varieties on the market. It's a fickle grape that takes care to produce a good... Read More

  • Gato Negro Cabernet-Merlot 2014

    Snoothrank:

Drank this with some triple-meat pizza (pepperoni, sausage, and bacon). The flavors complimented well, and it was plenty good the next night as a standalone as well. One I drank was 2015, so from last year. More than happy to buy it again. Convenience note - this one has a screw top. Read More

  • Caiti 2014

    Snoothrank:

Huge Burgundy coloration with purple/garnet hues. There is huge cherry aromas upon popping the cork and immediately after, this dissipated in favor of blueberry, blackberry, and plumy cherry. Flavors follow suit with a little more spice, albeit subtle, along with super berry flavor, vanilla bean, cocoa, and very mild caramel sweetness....aweso... Read More
