The Leyda Valley is the best known area of production in the San Antonio Valley in Chile. The reason for this is largely attributed to the fact it was the first planted area and also because the region's original source of irrigation, making viticulture possible in the valley, is here.
Leyda is known for crisp, mineral driven whites with high acidity levels and distinct aromatic quality.
Its proximity to the ocean and thin, rocky soils comprised of decomposed granite and red clay offer perfect growing conditions for Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir, and more recently Syrah. San Antonio also grows small plantings of Riesling and Gewurztraminer which are not common in the rest of Chile, but show great potential in this area.
