Leyda Valley Wine

The Leyda Valley is the best known area of production in the San Antonio Valley in Chile. The reason for this is largely attributed to the fact it was the first planted area and also because the region's original source of irrigation, making viticulture possible in the valley, is here.

Leyda is known for crisp, mineral driven whites with high acidity levels and distinct aromatic quality.

Its proximity to the ocean and thin, rocky soils comprised of decomposed granite and red clay offer perfect growing conditions for Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir, and more recently Syrah. San Antonio also grows small plantings of Riesling and Gewurztraminer which are not common in the rest of Chile, but show great potential in this area.

Leyda Valley on Snooth

  • Vina Leyda Classic Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2006

    Snoothrank:

The citrus is all there in the nose and rolls into the midpalate with an almost Sweet Tart tang. Kinda pulls up a bit on the finish. Feels like it's going to other burst with puckermouth flavor or go over-grassy but does neither. Nice, lemon-y nose. Way better after an hour of opening up. Read More

  • Viña Leyda Pinot Noir Leyda Valley Cahuil 2007

    Snoothrank:

I noticed the word "tangy" in the keywords above and that really is a great way to describe this wine. It's very fruity with bright strawberry flavors. Very fruit forward throughout, but due to the cool growing conditions there's a minerality and tangy, tartness as well. Its pretty simple, but was a crowd pleaser Read More

GIving this an extra glass on the rating for the nose alone. The grapefruit is so direct it made me step back. Really impressive and delicious with other citrus behind it. Read More

  • Viña Leyda Pinot Noir Leyda Valley Cahuil 2007

    Snoothrank:

Hankittu kaksi pulloa kesällä 2008 Silja Linen kellarista. Toinen nautittiin hyvässä seurassa juustopiiraan kyytipoikana, toinen itsenäisyyspäivänä kera valkosipuliperunoiden ja paahtopaistin. Pehmeä, täyteläinen, ja sopivan runsas. Erinomainen viini. Read More

  • Montes Sauvignon Blanc Leyda Vineyard 2007

    Snoothrank:

Lightly herbal on the nose, very crisp and refreshing. A pretty tasty wine. Not screaming grassiness, but enough herbaceous-ness to be varietally true. The bottle had a trio of medals on it: International Winery of the year 2002 (W&S); 2002 Wine Personality of the year (Aurelio Montes - selected by the Chilean Agricultural Society) and New World...
