Casablanca Valley Wine

Casablanca Valley, Chile’s premier cool-climate coastal region, offers wine lovers an elegant style of wine that’s uniquely indicative of the area. Here, the focus is on varieties that thrive in cooler temperatures including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and a rising production of Syrah.

Casablanca is a relatively new region for wine production, as the first vines were planted just over 30 years ago in 1982 by Pablo Morande, the winemaking veteran from Concha y Toro. As a result, the region is just now coming into its own, eclipsing even the great strides it has already made. Recent soil analysis, experimentation of plantings on higher slopes, and a focus on matching the best varieties to the climate have given Casablanca an image of prestige and innovation that shows through in the wines.

In every sense of the term, Casablanca is a classic cool climate, coastal region – the average temperature in the summer is 25C (77F) which is significantly cooler than other parts Read more »

For my money if you can find a blend containing a drop or two of Syrah and Carmenere with Cab. Sauv. and/or Merlot for less than $20. BUY IT. This was a very good bottle of vino. • Ritual Pinot Noir 2012

    Snoothrank:

This Casablanca PN is one of but a few I have tasted in recent years, but an opportunity arose to taste this (I believe) Paul Hobbs production, and I was pleasantly surprised: the nose is quite forward with cherries and wet loam predominating (quite rich, actually). The palate receives a deep, dense and luscious flow of sweet cherry and red ber... Read More

  • Emiliana Sauvignon Blanc Novas 2013

    Snoothrank:

This has medium plus intensity on the nose with a good bit of fresh cut grass, green bell pepper, lemon and spice. Good fresh acidity on the palate with lemon and lime, cantaloupe, steely minerality, more green bell pepper notes and a finish that has just a touch of yeast. Read More

  • Vina Casablanca Nimbus Carmenere Single Vineyard Valle del Rapel Chile 2011

    Snoothrank:

Dark and muscular on the nose with earthy, forest floor streaked fruit that shows dried fruit character and some gamy notes. Round up front but then this is oddly small in the mouth, a tight ball of polished tannins, well balanced acidity, and subtle plum, black berry, and oak spice flavors brushed gently with hints of licorice and sage. The fin... Read More

  • Vina Casablanca Syrah Cefiro Reserva Rapel Valley Chile 2011

    Snoothrank:

Tight on the nose with hints of violets and mushroom framing the pepper and pure black fruit on the nose. this gains subtle toasty, nutty nuance with some air. Rich and polished in the mouth, though the tannins remains a bit edgy lending this some energy and texture in the mouth. theres some subtle gamy nuance here and a whisper of black olive a...
