Aconcagua Wine

To the north of Santiago is the Aconcagua Valley, a small winegrowing area of just 1,098 hectares best-known for its production of red wines. In fact, Aconcagua has earned international prestige as one of Chile’s highest regarded wines. In 2004, Vina Errázuriz’s “Seña”, an iconic Bordeaux-style blend and one of the premier reds of Chile, placed ahead of both Château Lafite and Château Margaux in the Berlin Tasting, a milestone for the Chilean wine industry likened to the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris.

Aconcagua experiences a Mediterranean climate with 8.5 inches of annual rainfall and boast variety of soils dominated by clay and sand in the east and granite and clay in the west. The area is also home to the America’s highest point, Mt. Aconcagua. At 22,828 feet, the snowcapped mountain provides adequate water to the vines below.

The valley also runs along the river that stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Andes and experiences significant Read more »

  • Vina Leyda Chardonnay 2014

    Snoothrank:

A touch phenolic in the nose with green apple and peach notes. Nicely spiced palate of green apple, zesty citrus and juicy pear notes. This shows well in the midpalate with a lot of bright acidity and freshness, and turns toasty on the finish with streaks of oak and burnt lemon peel. Read More

  • Albamar Sauvignon Blanc 2013

    Snoothrank:

Classic lemon aromas waft from the glass with some green apple and grass notes. This has some flab in the mouth but despite being chunky on entry there is some acidic bit to follow with notes of lemon, pink grapefruit and even a touch of cream towards the finish. Read More

  • Leyda Pinot Noir 2013

    Snoothrank:

Smoke and char on the nose muting the cherry fruit or at least hiding it a bit. The palate is full of ripe cherry and cooked cranberry fruit, with streaks of tar and some earth as well. It's medium bodied but the finish has a little extra punch as it lingers with some tart fruit and earth, with some zestiness as well. Read More

  • Vina Leyda Sauvignon Blanc Single Vineyard Garuma 2014

    Snoothrank:

Floral honeysuckle and peach notes opening here with lemon and a bit of grassiness. Puckering lemon acidity in the mouth which is kind of single noted or at least very profoundly direct on that note, yet there is still some peach and apricot around the edges of this refreshing wine.89 pts Read More

  • Veramonte Ritual Sauvignon Blanc 2013

    Snoothrank:

Binny's 8/2015. Mary loves it. Which makes me happy cause it's inexpensive (aka CHEAP). Winding down our white wine season here in MI in mid Sept. Not to mean we are done drinking white's. It is just that red wines by in large make you feel warmer. Autumn is close at hand, followed by, yup, winter. BOOOOO! The season for red wine. Thank you, Lord. Read More
