Noted for very fertile soils, the Fraser Valley is the largest agricultural region in British Columbia, Canada’s westernmost province. Just east of Vancouver, the DVA has a longer growing season than the richly productive Okanagan Valley, although it is cooler. Given these generally promising conditions, it is curious that the area presently hosts so few grape wineries (along with several fruit wineries), with barely 20 hectares under vine. Perhaps the high fertility of the Fraser Valley doesn't offer the "stress levels" commonly associated with premium winegrowing. Still, the Fraser Valley does have certain microclimates suitable to varieties like Bacchus, Madeleine Sylvaner, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Fraser Valley is home to the province’s most southerly winery, Domaine de Chaberton. – Description from Appellation America (view original content)

  • DV you may be referring to a half case of Sunstone Chardonnay which was a gift from the winery and winemaker Bion Rice on the occasion of my retirement from teaching. Bion was one of my students. He is making wine at Sunstone and at his first winery Artiste in Los Olivos. Artiste is actually my favorite winery in the valley that specializes in b... Read More

  • Valley Girl Blueberries Blueberry 190 NV

This off-dry Fraser Valley BC Canada fruit wine made entirely from blueberries (a local crop well-known for high quality fruit) is very good; it is deep cherry red in colour with blueberry jam notes and garden flowers (who knows which) on the nose and sweet, clean, balanced blueberry flavours on entry. The finish is medium. Chill well. 84 poi... Read More

Although this is not the first time I have tasted the 2007, it is the first time I have had time to savour it. Not quite as rich as the 2008, it is nevertheless an elegant CF with a depth of a California wine yet the bracing acidity of a Bourgueil (Loire). It has the earth and grassy herbs of a northern expression of this variety, but is very, ... Read More

Alliance, is not just another Canadian attempt at producing a Bordeaux style wine; this is one of the best I have found thus far and can actually say that it is one of the best Bordeaux style reds I have found coming out of the Pacific Northwest, and Washington State is producing some fine wine in this style. Arguably a Meritage this wine is wor... Read More
