Bordeaux Controlée, a.k.a. Bordeaux AOC, is an appellation covering wines produced all over the Bordeaux region of France. These are wines that are not produced from grapes grown exclusively in the specific AOCs such as Margaux or Pomerol, but are either sourced from a variety of different vineyards or use different grape blends and aging methods otherwise not permitted within the other AOCs. These are considered the Bordeaux bargain wines, and in most cases, lack the aging potential and grace of more prestigious appellations. However, in the right hands, these can still be excellent values with good flavor structure.
The grapes consist of all the regional grapes, produced as single varietal releases or in blends. For reds, these are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Carmenère, and Petit Verdot. For whites, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscadelle, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Mauzac, and Ondenc. Styles include dry reds, whites, and rosé and the Read more »

This inexpensive but generally most Bordeaux red has a jam-tart nose with a hint of iodine, and enters the mouth smoothly with logwood-cedar bark, blueberry jam and new oak. Good tavern fare with a lignin and blackberry finish. Good value. 84. Read More

Binny's 8/28/2015. Another VALUE. Hear me people, if you want to get your money's worth on a good/almost great white wine. Pick up any white Bordeaux between $10 to $15, and if you are not satisfied, I, no not I, somebody in France, I think, will give you your money back. Maybe. Read More

  • F. Theinpont Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Binny's 4/2015. Always a good value, although this bottle was not as up to snuff as my life long rule tells me it should be. I quote myself, "you can not find a lousy value when buying White Bordeaux". However, it was still gulpable, and a little earthy. Carry on, no worry, be happy now. Purchased another for Mary in August 2015, and it was cons... Read More

A bit oaky on the nose but also quite fruity with plummy aromas and some blueberry and blackcurrant accents all topped with peppery spice and hints of vanilla and clove. Soft in the mouth, supple with modest acidity lending this a rich and slightly thick feel on the palate. the tannins are also ripe and soft and this sort of seeps across the pal... Read More
