Bordeaux Contrôlée Wine

Bordeaux Controlée, a.k.a. Bordeaux AOC, is an appellation covering wines produced all over the Bordeaux region of France. These are wines that are not produced from grapes grown exclusively in the specific AOCs such as Margaux or Pomerol, but are either sourced from a variety of different vineyards or use different grape blends and aging methods otherwise not permitted within the other AOCs. These are considered the Bordeaux bargain wines, and in most cases, lack the aging potential and grace of more prestigious appellations. However, in the right hands, these can still be excellent values with good flavor structure. 
 
The grapes consist of all the regional grapes, produced as single varietal releases or in blends. For reds, these are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Carmenère, and Petit Verdot. This was bought for me as a present on the strength of a bottle we had which was also a Sauvignon Blanc/Semiilon combination and this was even better. The Semillon added that sweet citrus quality but the Sauvignon Blanc was so so refreshing and smooth....

Good. Earthy, silky, typical merlot profile black cherry and wood, the 30% cabernet makes the finish silky smooth and pleasant. Also can taste a lot of raspberries. Pretty good for the price at $12. Looking forward to having some later with a pot roast.
