for this region?

The South West is a zone that encompasses the best known growing regions of the Western Australia state. Since most of the state is too hot for viticulture, this is the area where conditions become more temperate due to coastal influences and most of the quality wine-making is clustered, starting just south of Perth.

The regions within South West are:

    * Pemberton
    * Margaret River
    * Blackwood River Valley
    * Geographe
    * Peel
    * Perth Hills
    * Swan District

For more information about the individual districts and varietals, please see Western Australia.

  • Leeuwin Estate Shiraz Margaret River Siblings 2007

    Lovely on the nose with earth, vanilla, dried meat and cracked peppercorn notes all framing the core of liquory reds fruits. Cool on entry, this is rich and ripe but clear on the palate, delivering a mouthful of cherry fruit with spiced edges. Theres some oak here, but it plays a supporting role, adding a base of fine tannins along with the laye... Read More

  • Xanadu Next of Kin Shiraz 2008

    Pretty floral on the nose with green peppercorn spice, jammy red currant fruit, some well-integrated cigar box notes and a little tropical fruit/orange rind. This is very cool, crisp and focused in the mouth. The flavors of currant, boysenberry and plum are fresh and brisk, with very subtle spice, soil and cocoa notes helping to frame the fruit.... • Plantagenet Pinot Noir Mount Barker Omrah 2009

    Fairly intense if smoky with stemmy and soil driven aromatics that add nice fresh spice tones to a lean yet focused core of raspberry fruit. This comes on strong on entry, lots of richness yet on a very lean frame. Theres nicely framed light cherry/cranberry fruit here, a hint of astringency from the tannins that helps add some cut to the very ... Read More

  • Plantagenet Pinot Noir Mount Barker Omrah 2009

    Nice and warm on the nose with some notes of maplewood mixed in. Hello, bing cherry! (remember the ones that Starbucks used to sell?) Tight and succinct, this is a bit harsh on the tannins, maybe stemming from the...stems! All in all, this is a nice Pinot to pair with some light meats and cheeses. Read More
