for this region?

The South West is a zone that encompasses the best known growing regions of the Western Australia state. Since most of the state is too hot for viticulture, this is the area where conditions become more temperate due to coastal influences and most of the quality wine-making is clustered, starting just south of Perth.

The regions within South West are:

    * Pemberton
    * Margaret River
    * Blackwood River Valley
    * Geographe
    * Peel
    * Perth Hills
    * Swan District

For more information about the individual districts and varietals, please see Western Australia.

  • Leeuwin Estate Riesling Margaret River Art Series 2008

    Very heavy petrol on the nose with kaffir lime leaf. Subtle spice on the palate with loads of slate minerality. Rather like a mouthful of rocks and not enough fruit for me, to balance it. Not my style.79 pts.5/18/13 Read More

  • Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay 2008

    No oak aromas on the nose, all fresh fruit. Nose of golden pear skin, peach and white nectarine. Full bodied and vibrant on the palate with flavors of pear, nectarine and peach. Nice pure fruit flavors. Subtle sweet spice and nuts. Nice wine. 92 pts.5/18/13 Read More

  • Robert Oatley Chardonnay Mudgee 2010

    Noticeable wood on the nose and butter/cream notes. Nice notes of apple/pear tart, fresh brioche. Smooth and creamy texture and nice flavors of buttery pastry of par and apple. Vibrant acid but kept in check. Hints of tropical fruits. Light smokiness and salinity. Really interesting mix of flavors. Nice wine!90 pts. Read More

  • Xanadu Cabernet 2008

    Somewhat dumb nose with a bit of menthol and blackcurrant. The mouthfeel is soft, slightly tannic with a mild stemmy finish that is not altogether welcome. Flavours are, however, correct for the variety and the region. Will last a few years more but probably not worth it. Very decent value in a Bordelais style. 86 points. Read More
