Western Australia is the largest independent state and wine region within Australia, and the second largest in the world. It covers roughly 1000 square miles in any direction. Due to its size, it boasts quite the array of climate and topographical growing conditions.

Since a good portion of the state is very hot and humid, the regions tend to cluster around the south western areas where the weather is cooler and more temperate. Near the state capital Perth there is the Swan District, Perth Hills and Peel. Around the south coast it ranges from  Pemberton to Albany. And along the cool southern end of Geographe Bay (Margaret River and Geographe), with the inland Blackwood Valley.

The regions within Western Australia are:

    * Great Southern: the largest, best known for cool climate Riesling and Pinot Noir. It is further divided into the subregions Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker and Porungurup.
    * Manjimup: along the Blackwood River, the continental Read more »

  • Evans & Tate Cabernet Sauvignon Margaret River Redbrook 2010

    Snoothrank:

Toasted almond and dark chocolate on the nose with bunches of dark fruit - blackberry and black cherry and bramble fruit. In the mouth its more red fruit focused with red currant and raspberry, vanilla and a touch of cranberry with a fair bit of tobacco and leather - good structure and a fine finish of cinnamon and oak.
