Central Victoria, part of the larger Victoria province, is one of the most diverse wine-making regions in Australia. It comprises five subregions and an array of micro-climates and terroirs, with a broad range of wine styles.

    * Bendigo: with a warm, dry climate. Gold-mining was once the main industry here, now a favorite wine destination. Mostly known for rich reds from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese.
    * Goulburn Valley: with a history of wine-making that dates back to the 1860s. Warm and dry, with local rivers and lakes providing temperature moderation and irrigation. Known for Rhone varietals Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre (Mataro), Viognier, Rousanne, Marsanne as well as Chardonnay.
    * Heathcote: known for its distinct Cambrian soil, milder temperatures and long growing season. Produces some of the most well-regarded Shiraz in the country. Also, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Tempranillo and whites from Viognier, Read more »

  • Tahbilk Shiraz Nagambie Lakes 1860 Vines 1997

    Snoothrank:

feel that this one aged better than its fellow '96 vintage.similarly well mellowed, with rich plums and a bit of soy, but it felt more sophisticated.also the sediments were finer and less. while best to finish it soon, i feel it can still stretch for 2-3 years. still really enjoyable now :) Read More

  • Tahbilk Shiraz Nagambie Lakes 1860 Vines 1996

    Snoothrank:

I was advised that this wine had just gone past its peak when I purchased it recently. Indeed it has. Certainly a lot mellowed compared to younger Australian Shiraz, and no longer as bold. Instead, what presented were mature plummy fruits and that wee bit of soy acid as a result of age. Was still great though, and expect to last only till end of... Read More

  • A&r Shiraz Viognier 2014

    Snoothrank:

A recent Naked Wines selection. A deep opaque Garnet Red in the Glass. Not a big nose, but opens with a mint and roasted cherry/cranberry; a bit of brown sugar, herbs, pepper, and tomato leaf. Medium soft mouthfeel; minimal tannins with more black & white pepper, leather, and tobacco. Opens a bit more and then cherry plum. Though a bit thinner t... Read More

  • Check your maps. Atlanta to Miami is much further than Sonoma to SD or Victoria to Prince Rupert. Even with a light plane, refueling stop likely needed. And as a drive, I'd much rather do the other two than that dead stretch from southern Georgia through north central Florida... Read More

You seem to use "wine tourism" and "visiting a vineyard" to mean the same thing but they don't.Visiting a vineyard may or may not be part of "wine tourism" but most people who are tourists have no interest at all in visiting vineyards. If they do, they will look at r... Read More
