Victoria Wine

Victoria is a wine growing state in the South East part of Australia. Because of its diverse terroirs and micro-climates, many different styles of wine can be attributed to its regions, from sparkling to dry reds and whites to dessert wines known as “stickies.” The state capital Melbourne is the epicenter, with bustling restaurants and wine bars dedicated to local bottlings.

However, it was not as lucky as other parts of the country to escape the deadly Phylloxera louse outbreak some thirty years later, and the industry suffered until the hybrid grafting solution was discovered in the early 20th century.

Victoria has six regions which in turn have many subregions:

    * Central Victoria, which has the Bendigo, Goulburn Valley, Heathecote, Strathbogie Ranges and Upper Goulburn, with many climates warm and cool. Thus it ranges from Read more »

  • Boggy Creek Vineyards Barbera King Valley 2005

A great wine. The winery says "The wine presents with rich herbal, cherry and jammy characters, but is a surprise to many on the palate due to its unique structure." Sounds like the ideal description of a Barbera wine to me. When you taste the wine you will see that they are right,. Read More

  • Innocent Bystander Shiraz Blend Shiraz Viognier 2005

This seemed liked it was a bit over the hill. The color was a deep garnet with slightly browned edges. The palate had a nice balance and texture/mouth feel. It had a long finish. There was some white pepper and blueberries. The alcohol was a tad high. Seemed a bit oxidized but still nice. Just surprising it was a 2005. 88/100 Read More

  • Innocent Bystander Shiraz Blend Shiraz Viognier 2005

Unusually blood red very violet florality, fairly alcoholic, spice, plum and faint leather. Big, fruit driven entry, nice mid-palate with good acidity and fine tannins support light nuanced pepper and herb notes that enhance the very red tart plum, red licorice fruits. Light and elegant but ends a touch hot 87pts Read More
