Clare Valley is a wine region within the Lofty Ranges of the South Australia zone. Its history dates back to the 1840s when vines were first imported to the country for planting. Now this picturesque area is a prime tourist destination, with many wineries along the “Riesling Trail” wine train route open to the public.

Many of the vineyards are situated on higher levels of the Mount Lofty Ranges. Warm summer days and cool nights are ideal for maximum grape ripening. The Rieslings grown are therefore very complex, with good acidity and often cellar-worthy. Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon are also very well respected from the area.

  • Saddleworth Hills Shiraz Reserve 2013

Another one from Vino Volo. Their description card seemed appropriate. 'Boysenberry & Smoked Meats...notes of boysenberry, licorice, smoked meats, and forest floor. Palate of blackberry, black plum, dried herbs, and pepper'. Ok little wine, most likely would not drink it again. Read More

  • Jim Barry Shiraz the Lodge Hill 2012

Wonderful wine making lends to the lavender floral notes with blueberry, plum and spice - mainly pepper with dusty tannins that finish slightly sweet. Rounded tannins are just chewy enough to give texture and meld with mineraly acidity to drive a medium length aftertaste. Drink now - Paul 91 points Read More

  • Kilikanoon Shiraz Killerman's Run 2012

One of my favorites from down under. Kilikanoon is a long time quality producer and I can get them at a reasonable price. Lush fruit, velvety and succulent this traps the drinker into sip after sip. Mellow tannins marry well spice and the acidity to give a full and dynamic finish. 2 in a row from Aussie land. Well done - Paul 90 points Read More
