Mount Lofty Ranges is a region within the state of South Australia. An array of soil types, climate and altitudes contribute to the area’s range of styles and varietals from sparkling to white to red and sweet.

The subregions of the Mount Lofty Ranges are:

    * Adelaide Hills: with altitudes and styles. Sought-out high elevations with cool climates are ideal for crisp whites (with malolactic fermentation widely practiced) made from Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Semillon, as well as dry Pinot Noir, also with sparkling styles. Cabernet, Shiraz and Merlot are more common in warmer, lower elevations in the northern part of the region. It is further subdivided into Lenswood (cool climate) and Picadilly (known for sparkling wine).
    * Adelaide Plains: warm and dry, best suited for Cabernet, Shiraz, Grenache, Merlot and Malbec for reds. Colombard and Chardonnay lead the whites with Semillon not far behind. Due to an influx of Italian immigrants Read more »

  • Saddleworth Hills Shiraz Reserve 2013

    Snoothrank:

Another one from Vino Volo. Their description card seemed appropriate. 'Boysenberry & Smoked Meats...notes of boysenberry, licorice, smoked meats, and forest floor. Palate of blackberry, black plum, dried herbs, and pepper'. Ok little wine, most likely would not drink it again. Read More

  • Jim Barry Shiraz the Lodge Hill 2012

    Snoothrank:

Wonderful wine making lends to the lavender floral notes with blueberry, plum and spice - mainly pepper with dusty tannins that finish slightly sweet. Rounded tannins are just chewy enough to give texture and meld with mineraly acidity to drive a medium length aftertaste. Drink now - Paul 91 points Read More

  • Kilikanoon Shiraz Killerman's Run 2012

    Snoothrank:

One of my favorites from down under. Kilikanoon is a long time quality producer and I can get them at a reasonable price. Lush fruit, velvety and succulent this traps the drinker into sip after sip. Mellow tannins marry well spice and the acidity to give a full and dynamic finish. 2 in a row from Aussie land. Well done - Paul 90 points Read More
