Mclaren Vale Wine

John Reynell planted grapes at Reynella in 1838 and later employed a young labourer named Thomas Hardy. In so doing, the foundations were being put in place for two wine dynasties that were to dominate the region for over a century. McLaren Vale became the model of the small winery before such enterprises became fashionable in other states, and it remains one of the most richly varied and highly developed areas in Australia, producing intensely flavoured and coloured red wines and similarly powerful whites. The region is bordered to the north by the city of Adelaide with Adelaide Hills to the east, Sellicks Hill Range to the south and the Gulf of St Vincent to the west. The landscape though ever changing is nonetheless invariably beautiful, with rivers—notably the Onkaparinga and its tributaries—hills, olive groves and forests all co-existing and confirming yet again the need for the all-important correct site selection. Hitherto it had been difficult to describe the official climate of McLaren Vale, as there was no local weather station and statistical data had to be taken from the Waite Institute, located in a southern suburb of Adelaide some 25 kilometres (15.5 miles) to the north. Mclaren Vale on Snooth

  • Beresford Chardonnay Mclaren Vale 2013

    Snoothrank:

Nicely herbal and slightly hot aromas of green apple and sweet lemon. This is spicy and zesty in the mouth with bold lemon and grapefruit notes, fresh green apple and a hint of tart herbal character towards the finish that has good length and subtle oak. Read More

  • Beresford Shiraz Mclaren Vale 2013

    Snoothrank:

Dark and creamy with baking spice and black currant aromas and vanilla bean spice on the nose. This is brightly powerful and fruity on entry with explosive ripe cherry and cranberry in the mouth, a touch of herb and a clump of earth coming through the mid palate and good tannic structure on the finish. Refreshing and full flavored selection. Read More

  • Imprimata Grenache Mclaren Vale South Australia 2012

    Snoothrank:

Mostly this gives off red berry fruits, pepper - interestingly both black & white - cardamom, a silky smooth balanced tannin to acid finish that is both long and mouthwatering. I've not knowingly had a wine from either contributing producer, but if this is an example and BUY!!! It's ready - drink now and drink alot. Paul 91 points Read More

  • Red Knot Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

    Snoothrank:

This was really good for the price point. Plenty of blackberry and Damson plum, wood, chocolate and chewy tannins combined with juicy acidity give a better than average everyday drinking experience - which is exactly what you could do at this price. Drink now - Paul 87 points Read More
