Mudgee (Aboriginal for “nest in the hills”) is a wine region within the Central Ranges of the state of New South Wales in Australia. It is one of the oldest regions in the country with a history that dates back to the 1850s.

It is mostly hot and dry, but has a relatively late spring, and thus a much later harvest than its neighbor, Hunter Valley. The wines of the region are concentrated, rich and deep, made from Cabernet and Shiraz for reds and Chardonnay, Semillon and Viognier for whites.

  • Hamiltons Bluff Sangiovese Orange 2002

    Snoothrank:

I enjoyed two bottles of this fine wine delivered by a citizen of Canowindra, Pete Lowe, this summer (2009). It was a classic Sangiovese hit - spice, unctuous cherry flavour - superb. Read More

  • Robert Oatley Rosé Blend Rosé 2010

    Snoothrank:

This Sangiovese Rose is crisp, dry and very well made. I love the length and texture as it really fits the bill for a crowd that likes red wines. This Rose is perfect for the summer and the kinds of foods we like right now. A stunner. Read More

  • Robert Oatley Sauvignon Blanc 2008

    Snoothrank:

With gooseberry, cat pee, jalapeño, this is a typical southern hemisphere SB, fresh and bright in the mouth with citrus, pineapple(-), and faintly herbal notes, neither deep nor intense but balanced and fresh, in a softer style, easy to drink. 84pts Read More

  • Robert Oatley Rosé Blend Rosé 2008

    Snoothrank:

At first quite floral and light cherry scented, a bit hot at room temp, a touch soft but with relatively rich cherry berry fruit and not enough RS to be noticeable, a touch chewy and a bit bigger styled with a bit of a compact feel. 85pts Read More
