for this region?

The region of the High Valley of Río Negro concentrates the greater viticulture surface of the province, located in General Roca district. They are followed in importance by Río Negro Mid Valley areas and the Río Colorado Mid Valley areas. Agro-ecological conditions are exceptional, barely needing chemical applications. The climate is similar to that of Neuquén. However, delayed or early frosts are a limitation to the development of the activity. Red and white varieties for winemaking are grown in the region, the most important varieties being Pinot Noir Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc among reds and Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Viognier among whites.

  • Clos du Bois Chardonnay North Coast 2012

A pretty standard Chardonnay. Not bad but not great. Lots of butter here but not as much oak as I would like, making it less balanced. Some lemon seed tartness and decent heat from the alcohol. An easy drinker for weekdays on the back porch. Read More

  • Bodega Noemia de Patagonia Malbec a Lisa 2010

A touch of Old World style adds to the distinction of this Patagonian selection, whose bouquet includes whiffs of latex and leather. It's far from a kinky experience, though, with a dignified lightness that carries red currant and ripe tomato flavors through to a clean finish. A nice match for lighter Italian and Provencal dishes. • Grüner Veltliner 2012

Nose of quince, red currant and cranberry with lots of minerality. On the palate, the minerality turns a touch metallic. Flavors of cranberry, pomegranate and currant. Touch of strawberry. Crisp, dry and refreshing. 86 pts.5/9/13 at winery Read More
