Tupungato is a wine region in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, Argentina. It’s named after the town, which is surrounded by the high altitude vineyards (the name in local Huarpe means “star viewpoint”). These high locations ensure plenty of sun exposure to ripen the grapes, which benefit from a longer growing season than other locations closer to the valley floor. The Andes mountains shelter the vineyards from precipitation, however melting water that runs from the peaks is the natural source of irrigation.
The dominant grapes cultivated are Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Torrentes.

Unsweet berry with a slight floral quality is also in the mix of varied flavors such as slight caramel, figs and nutmeg. After about a half hour of the bottle being opened the second glass proved it to be very we... • Achával-Ferrer Red Bordeaux Blend Cabernet Merlot Malbec 2010

Had it on an Argentinian flight. It smells of dark fruits berries. The tannins was a tad too much for me and I did not like the woodiness it had. The earthy mineral taste was there but it was not bad. It is not exactly an easy wine. Read More

  • Masi Tupungato Passo Doble 2009

Deep blackberry and plum fruit with raisin and earth on the nose. Lush and rich, well balanced and smooth, with good acidity and savory notes to balance the black fruit. Finishes up a little quick, but is very pleasant. Read More
