Tupungato is a wine region in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, Argentina. It’s named after the town, which is surrounded by the high altitude vineyards (the name in local Huarpe means “star viewpoint”). These high locations ensure plenty of sun exposure to ripen the grapes, which benefit from a longer growing season than other locations closer to the valley floor. The Andes mountains shelter the vineyards from precipitation, however melting water that runs from the peaks is the natural source of irrigation.
The dominant grapes cultivated are Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Torrentes.

  • Andeluna Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Tupungato 2005

I received this bottle today from a good friend who likes to share the wealth, but I had to leave it in my truck all day. I let it get warmer that I should have, but it wasn't in bad conditions for too long. All in all, this was a nice wine. Read More

  • Achaval-Ferrer Torrontés Nomade 2007

Started with a nice hint of pears, juiciness and a slight touch of acetone (similar to overripe Asian pears). Secondary notes of butter, vanilla and even lychee. The more I drank, I started noticing a nice smokiness and a hint of tobacco toe the flavors. It was a real pleasure being able to enjoy this Malbec. Read More

  • Finca Sophenia Cabernet Sauvignon Tupungato Altosur 2009

Lovely depth of flavor for this fairly new vintage and it will no doubt improve with age. Wonderful flavor including berries but not a sweet wine, partially aged in oak, nice price. Read More

  • Finca Sophenia Cabernet Sauvignon Tupungato 2007

A fresh and vibrant expression of a youthful Cabernet, complete with exuberance, bright flavors, and a touch of elegance. Light magenta in color; blackberry, black cherry, and chocolate in the nose; cherry with hints of earth and spice on the palate; very berry with cherry and spice in the finish. I would love to see this wine in 10 years. Read More

  • Doña Paula Cabernet Franc Tupungato 2007

Just got a bottle from the local wine merchant. It came highly recommended after discussions around personal taste. I have to say it doesn't dissapoint. It has the same qualities as smooth bordeaux's but with a distinctive spice that is characteristic of most argentinian wines. Works well, goes great with cheeses. Enjoy! Read More
