Tupungato is a wine region in the Uco Valley of Mendoza, Argentina. It’s named after the town, which is surrounded by the high altitude vineyards (the name in local Huarpe means “star viewpoint”). These high locations ensure plenty of sun exposure to ripen the grapes, which benefit from a longer growing season than other locations closer to the valley floor. The Andes mountains shelter the vineyards from precipitation, however melting water that runs from the peaks is the natural source of irrigation.
The dominant grapes cultivated are Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Torrentes.

  • Finca Sophenia Cabernet Sauvignon Tupungato Altosur 2009

Lovely depth of flavor for this fairly new vintage and it will no doubt improve with age. Wonderful flavor including berries but not a sweet wine, partially aged in oak, nice price. Read More

  • Finca Sophenia Cabernet Sauvignon Tupungato 2007

A fresh and vibrant expression of a youthful Cabernet, complete with exuberance, bright flavors, and a touch of elegance. Light magenta in color; blackberry, black cherry, and chocolate in the nose; cherry with hints of earth and spice on the palate; very berry with cherry and spice in the finish. I would love to see this wine in 10 years. Read More

  • Doña Paula Cabernet Franc Tupungato 2007

Just got a bottle from the local wine merchant. It came highly recommended after discussions around personal taste. I have to say it doesn't dissapoint. It has the same qualities as smooth bordeaux's but with a distinctive spice that is characteristic of most argentinian wines. Works well, goes great with cheeses. Enjoy! Read More

  • Bodegas Monteviejo Malbec Vista Flores 2006

Nose of volatiles (nail polish). In the mouth quite rich deep fruit (plum, dark berry) balanced by lively and centered acid. Palate included hints of leaves, mineral or salt, wood and leather. Finish fades of same. Body medium plus, acid medium plus, tannin medium. Dryish. Seems like a great food wine, this tasted nice. Read More

  • Trapiche Iscay Merlot Malbec 2009

A nice red to serve slightly chilled with summer barbecue! This smells very fruity and ripe with notes of prune, plum and dark cherry with a bit of smoky oak. In the mouth this is very easy with soft tannins and a gentle sweetness coming from the spicy oak. The fruit is fresher than the nose would suggest, bright and with very soft tannins, it's...
