Valle de Uco is a wine region within Mendoza, all part of the Cuyo province in Argentina. Much of the wine-growing area sits at high altitude locations at the foot of the Andes mountains. The high-set vineyards benefit from hot days and cool nights, allowing full grape ripeness and complexity without too much alcohol. The Tunuyan river flows throughout the valley down from the Andes, providing irrigation to the vineyards. Although with so little rain in the area, this is still not sufficient and manufactured irrigation technology is widely practiced.

It is here that some of the top names in Bordeaux have set up shop, such as Baron Edmond Rothschild, Francois Lurton and Michel Rolland. Laurent Dassault recently partnered with Benjamin Rothschild here to form the DiamAndes wine conglomerate with the Bonnie family.

Much of the wines from the Uco are synonymous with quality, thanks to modern production methods and very careful attention to detail. Top grapes are Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot Read more »

Valle de Uco on Snooth

  • Doña Paula Sauvignon Blanc Estate 2011

    Snoothrank:

I am so out of my depth with white wines I had to look up on Google what sort of grape this is, and I found that it's native to Argentina and typically displays some smooth mouthfeel and mild acidity with aromatics of peach and apricot. And sure enough, there are some lovely floral notes to this wine, and some earthy notes that just bring to m... Read More

  • Doña Paula Sauvignon Blanc Estate 2011

    Snoothrank:

Getting a lot of oregano and herbal notes on the nose which blends very nicely with the minerality and the fruit. Lots more fruit on the palate - stone and tropical fruits, well balanced with fresh acidity and a silky finish. Read More

  • Angulo Innocenti Malbec la Consulta 2011

    Snoothrank:

Intensely aromatic on the nose with imposing aromas of dried herbs and dried blood orange peel along with inky notes and hints of diesel and stone all layered over a base of black currant and blackberry fruit with bitter chocolate shavings over them. Another wine that is so smooth, and polished in this case but not without life in the mouth. Th... Read More
