Maipú Wine

Maipu is a subregion of Mendoza, part of the larger Cuyo region in Argentina. It is situated just a few miles from the Mendoza river, which serves as irrigation for many of its vineyards planted in the alluvial (sand over clay) soil.

This, along with Lujan de Cuyo, is considered one of the most important wine regions within Mendoza. Malbec is the main grape grown for red wine, which has seen an increase in modern, quality wine-making in recent years. Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo are other reds produced there. For whites, the area is known for growing mostly Chardonnay with some Torrontes.

  • Finca Flichman Dedicado 2009

Showing inky, dark purple with red hues. The nose was highly expressive with fruity, spicy notes, showing a mix of blueberry and cherry, cinnamon, and hints of coffee grinds, violets and minerals adding depth. It caressed the palate with soft textures, balanced acidity and flavors of ripe blackberry, a dusting of dark chocolate and spice. Sweet ... Read More

Black fruits here with just a touch of menthol and spices. A robust wine, a bit bigger than I usually go for. I'm thinking grilled meats with this one. Read More

Deep ruby in the glass. Lovely fruit on the nose. Black and red currant with noble claret qualities, along with ripe black raspberry and other red and black wild berry fruit. Nice aromas as well of oak vanillin and just the slightest earthiness. Almost a hint of mint and basil. Nicely textured and well structured. It enters on juicy, fruit... Read More

  • Finca Flichman Dedicado 2009

The wine is a deep ruby in the glass, but given the blend, it's not as opaque as a traditional Malbec. The nose was rich with black fruit, ripe plum, cassis and berries, and a lovely hint of oak and dried herbs, and a bit later there were distinct coffee notes as well. As the wine opened up in the glass, there was a definite sweetness in the n... Read More

Big, bold, with some Cab Sauv it gives it even a more ripe black fruited nose and on the palate there is considerable acid that brings almost a blue fruit element to the palate. Read More

  • Filus Malbec Reserve 2007

Inky purple with deep ruby tones. On the nose, black plum, dark fruits, anise, and menthol. Medium to full bodied mouth feel, robust, with some big tannins across the palate. Flavors of ripe plums, tart black cherry, leather, and tobacco spice. A few sips later brought out notes of black currant and a hint of smoke. Lots of heat detected from th... Read More
