Agrelo is a small wine region within Mendoza in the Cuyo province of Argentina. It centers around the town of the same name. It is situated at the Mendoza river at the foot of the Andes. Vineyards are at high elevations, which ensures optimal sun exposure and grape acid/sugar balance. The grape varietals produced are the typical popular Mendoza varietals such as Torontes, Viognier, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc for whites. Reds consist of Bonarda, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. Many of the wineries here are boutique operations focused on quality viticulture.

Blueberry, blackberry and boysenberry on the nose, this full bodied, black cherry driven offering slides across the palate with balance and depth before lingering earth notes resolve into a long smooth finish. Despite its many favorable attributes this offering is a bit too straight forward for my taste and lacks the nuance of the exceptional. ... Read More

had this vintage at Gaucho grill in Picadilly in November. decanted only for about 30 minutes, with an extra hour or two could have been near perfect. Nose of cherry, blackberry and tropicals. Mid palate carries very well balanced acidity and tannins. Finish is medium length and introduces cigar box, cinnamon and spices. Read More

Typical of some mid-rank Argentine wines of this ilk, I find the robe very dark and inviting. The nose, however, is a bit muted for a 4 year old Cabernet of fairly exalted provenance from the Antipodes. Mostly closed with blackberry confit. Somewhat Médoc-like on entry, though without any youthful asperity - mostly bramble-berry and slightly ... Read More

One of the best wines I've had in recent memory. A very distinct Malbec, rich, smooth, and very tasty. Did not pucker at all - the taste was very buttery. The color was a deep red, clear, with great legs. Purchased in Argentina but I wish we could buy it here! Read More
