Lujan de Cuyo is a subregion of Mendoza, both part of the larger Cuyo wine region in Argentina. It is located south of Mendoza city, across the river of the same name. Most of the vineyards surround the river, providing natural irrigation for the alluvial (sand over clay) soil. This is considered the star region of Mendoza where many of the country’s top internationally selling wineries are located. It became Argentina’s first official appellation in 1993.

Malbec is the main grape grown, and has seen a steady increase in quality over the years, with investments in modern wine-making equipment and techniques to maximize its potential. Cabernet Sauvignon is also widely successful in blends and varietal releases. Torrontes is the main white grape, known for its perfumed aroma, fruity flavor and refreshing acidity. Chardonnay is also grown.

  • La Posta Malbec Angel Paulucci Vineyard 2007

Id have to say this was a huge disappointment. Perhaps if you like Merlot, you could tolerate this wine. If you dont like Merlot, you'll likely find it repulsive. Even if this is your style of wine, it's not particularly well made, or balanced, and certainly doesnt warrant the $15 price tag. Read More

  • La Posta Malbec Angel Paulucci Vineyard 2007

Smells a bit poo-ey, at first with a touch of funk that blows off to reveal dark earthy scents of sandy soil, almost a bit of nasty beach, fudgy, a bit odd and decidedly gamy with lurking floral tones. Its very supple in the mouth, lovely bright fruits, ok acids are accentuated by juicy flavors. There is a layered quality to the wine with the fu... Read More

  • Familia Mayol Malbec 2007

I'm just not feeling the love on this wine. Its not that its that bad, it just doesn't live up to other similarly priced Malbecs from Argentina. It has the lovely appearance as promised by the winemaker of a deep red violet but that's where the label fulfillment stops. I get a lot more alcohol than fruit on the nose, though I did get some hin... Read More
