What wine is this?

961647Frenzy

I'm curious to know which wine this white wine one is. It has no label, other than the small '1993' label. The green cap shows it's from France, it reads: 'Mise en bouteille a la Propriété' and 'Recoltant No. 49-R-01', so it probably means its from region 49 (Maine-et-Loire).

Thanks for your help!

  • No guarantees, but I think you'll find it to be a chenin blanc from the Loire Valley, specifically Coteaux du Layon or Savennieres.  The crest on the bottle is fairly distinct.

The appellations are located across the river from Angers, west of Saumur.  Various degrees of sweetness are allowed but you should expect an off-dry, at least, wine.  Chenin blancs from this area can age beautifully and if the bottle has been stored properly, it may be a nice treat.
