"You must have had one that you liked. As my dad says, "there's only 2 types of wine in the world..the kind you like and the kind you don't" I like a black, inky, earthy Syrah. Some of my favorites come from Black Cat Vineyard, HdV, Renard, and Signorello. You can find more info about all of these wineries on my winery directory at

I am thinking that the Stony Hill Gewurtz or Smith Madrone Riesling would be great....

"Syrah or Shiraz is just one of those varieties I am with which I am unfamiliar. I think I did find a good one last night at a local restaurant. It was Boxcar Wine Company 2007 Syrah. I really enjoyed it. This variety seems to vary in the way it tastes more than some other varieties. One of the problems is that I am here in Ohio and I think our availability to wine in general is more difficult because of the liquor laws. I see that you have reviewed some of these wines. I may just have to try some of those and compare notes.

I was with some people last night who are probably more knowledgeable about wine than I am. He saw my selection (the Boxcar) and asked about the vintage year. Is 2007 too young of a Syrah? I found the wine excellent. I am wondering at what age a Syrah becomes mature?

Thanks for the help."
