Dear Echoxander,

Hello!

This is Daniel Shin, studying in MSc Food Management at University of Surrey.
I am studying the consumer's wine buying behaviour online.
This research seeks the opinion of people who have had an experience purchasing wine either online or from other sources to investigate factors influencing customers’ wine purchasing behaviour in online shopping.
I have to find at least 100 people who have an experience of buying wine online.
If possible, could you send the questionnaire to members and ex-members?
It is linked to http://freeonlinesurveys.com/rendersurvey.asp?sid=jj73z5zbvz3kxvj610601
And if you cannot link to survey, please copy and paste the address on the web.
It just takes 1 min to answer the questionnaire.
I would be most grateful, if you could spare your time to send the questionnaire.
If you want to see research results, then I will send you after analysing the survey.
The research will contribute to a MSc dissertation in Food Management at the University of Surrey.
Any information provided will ONLY be used for research purposes.
All responses will be treated with the strictest confidence.
I am only in interested in obtaining consumers' views.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind Regards,

Daniel Shin

Dmcker and Greg, Thank you both so much for your quick insight! The fact that this was my first snooth post and I got this sort of feedback is a testament to the quality of this community....

"DL,

I recently just finished a bottle of Borsao 2007, which is a Spanish red table wine, mix of 75% Garnacha and 25% Tempranillo Grapes. Its fantastically dark, and for the price tag ($6-8) a great buy.

If dark reds aren't your thing, I also have a bottle of Chateau St. Michelle Riesling (2007), and (don't laugh), 2 buck chuck merlot. The other two are $8 and $2, respectively. If none of those sound appealing to you, YOU pick one, and I'll go grab it. Sharing tasting notes would be fun - none of my friends or family are really into wine, and I'm guessing when I get to Eastman my colleagues will into cheaper, harder booze.

So cognitive neuroscience seems pretty simple - maybe you should go into something that would challenge you a bit more. Seriously though, I took an intro cog sci class in my undergrad as a breadth requirement and having to memorize all those neuropathways, well, made me want to have a couple of glasses of wine. So is that why you drink?

It's great to hear about your involvement in music. i have no idea what Ghanaian traditional xylophone is, and the fact that you're more skilled in that than other, er, more westernly conventional instruments, is pretty cool. But can you play chopsticks on it? I'll be going to Eastman next year for composition. I'm that guy who used to play an instrument and then started writing music instead. Having a glass of wine while you're staring at a blank piece of paper never hurts in getting the creative juices floating...

Let me know what you pick up, I’ll go look around for a bottle, and we can compare notes!

I’m studying Psychology—quite interested in the cognitive neuroscience part of it. I think it’s refreshing that you’re pursuing music furthermore into graduate school—I’ve been enamored with music from very early on, began piano lessons at 7 yrs., and have continued to learn the basics of several different instruments, perhaps most fondly the Ghanaian traditional xylophone, which I helped to build myself when I was in West Africa for half a year. What are your musical aspirations??

As far as storing goes, I have had success with the inert gas can. But…meh. I think the solution is…there is no solution. What works for me, is that I’ll use the inert gas on a bottle I open and MUST share my find with someone; the vacuvin works well with a bottle I’m going to drink straight through in three days; and if it’s a dinner party where there are several bottles, I’ll leave them uncorked to aerate (don’t know if this proves true, but I keep telling myself this). Whites I’ll refrigerate, Reds I’ll store in my dark pantry that remains remarkably cooler than the kitchen. I’m a bit of an aspiring chef, so if a wine proves less than pleasing, I’ll cork it and save it to cook with.

Hope this helps a bit!

Isn't that particular wine really expensive? From the quick search I did, and what I know of Burgundy wines, that's a Grand Cru chateau isn't it?

Hey guys - thanks for both of your quick and helpful responses. Gregory (Greg?), for reds I enjoy heavy dark reds, although with some lighter meats I really like Pinot Noirs. The one Rhone...

Very tasty, especially for the price. Full of fruits (pears, apples), and pretty sweet. Went really well with Thai spicy basil noodles with beef.
