duffwine

Location: New York, NY

A wine industry professional, I enjoy trying new wines as well as other things, and travel to vineyards whenever possible. New York is a great base as long as you can escape every once in a while. I look for wines with character and people behind who care

"I work in the New York market and have the perfect Italian red wine for you... though you might have to order it from out of state. A blend of 65% Aglianico and 35% Piedirosso (local to Campania), the San Francesco 2007 Costa d'Amalfi Tramonti Rosso is edium-bodied, balanced and loaded with peppery spice. You should give it a try. Runs about $15."

I've seen vineyards on four continents, and my vote goes with South Africa (though the pictures from around Italy are tough to beat). I have heard that Alsace, with the best vineyards in the...

Tasted in Oct. 2007, this wine had picked up some cheese aromas and other secondary scents, but remained lively and bright. Some fine acidity offered a backbone to the rounded palate, with citrus...

Leonildo Pieropan Soave Classico Superiore La Rocca 2002

Starting at $35.47 Snoothrank: 3.5/5

This wine drinks like a port, with 17% alcohol. Not an ager, it still has plenty of fruit to last another few years, but others said it had already tapered off from earlier intensity. Not quite...

duffwine reviewed The Standish Wine Co Shiraz 2003. (4/5)
On May 22, 2008

Tasted in May 2008, this wine is a FRUIT-BOMB, with LOADS of cassis and dark plum flavor overridding everything but the alcohol. Smooth, nearly viscous, I found it a touch cooked on the finish.

The Standish Wine Co Shiraz 2003

Starting at $160.00 Snoothrank: 4.5/5
duffwine reviewed Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec 2003. (5/5)
On May 22, 2008

Tasted in May 2008 (in Buenos Aires), this wine is elegant, with finely-tuned tannins, beautiful fruit and even some secondary flavors, as well as a good amount of spice and vanilla influence from...

Big and even brawny (tasted May 2008), this showed more power and tannin than fruit. Very good, with plenty of tannin and currant fruit, but could still use more time to integrate.

Luigi Bosca Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2004

Starting at $13.09 Snoothrank: 3/5
