I followed the post for "How long does it take you to finish a bottle of wine?" and had a great time reading everyone's posts. For those of us who do not finish the bottle the same...

Okay...the wine tasting was good...they have a great line of wines and I ended up buying two bottles of their Viognier. I didn't spit, but instead had small tastes of the wine and freely...

Today is the day :))) Thanks to everyone for the advice!!

I am really looking forward to the wine tasting, but still a bit nervous as this is my first wine tasting and only our second date. He seems completely okay with this, so it is pretty much self-inflicted nerves, lol :))

I will note the wine you are enjoying, I really appreciate all of the recommendations. I am enjoying Echelon 2007 Chardonnay (Sonoma CA) recommended by the staff at my local Trader Joe's (I love that place.) It was about $10.00.

So interesting about the rim variation and the legs. I have observed both but was unaware of the related significance. It is nice to have this knowledge for future swirling / observing :)

There is so much to learn about wine...I really am enjoying the journey!!!

sorry to read about Mark, he sounds a little immature to me.......I wouldn't worry to much about it though. I'm curious to see how your wine tasting goes this weekend. As far as your question about the legs, I've learned that if they move slower down the glass, this indicates a higher alcohol content, the thickness or viscosity of the legs also goes hand in hand with a higher alc %. The rim variation is interesting, it took me a while to see what our sommelier was referring to, it's really thick ring around the top of the swirl, it takes a little practice but i've found it's pretty accurate, By the way I'm enjoying the 2006 Bodega Norton Privada this evening, A really nice Malbec from Argentina, 92 pts Wine Spectator and a great value at Costco for $19 !!!"

"TerriF, I've worked tasting rooms for a while now. Sites like the wineroad.com have etiquette recommendations. Ultimately, its a personal and subjective exploration of how we taste and how producers can sell their wines. If your visiting a few, be sure to spit and drink water. It can be dehydrating, as well as numbing! Have fun on the journey. "
