I like that description of east coast Cab Franc. I never really thought of it that way before, but when you put it that way, you are right, and its makes a nice visual in my head for the upcoming...

"why New Yorkers seem to be so enamored with famed French wines and classics from Napa, yet rarely enjoy our own state's products. Its a good point. Why don't we find more New York...

I havent had any Cab Franc from Virginia yet, but I think that Long Island is making some excellent Cab Franc. Actually I didnt see any mention of any of the pretty decent wines coming out of Long...

"Leave it to the Aussies to come up with a name like that. Sounds great to me

How can I not go out tonight and look for this! Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll let you know how it goes.

Bob's your uncle!

Thanks again"

"There is a pretty powerful shiraz out there, and not real pricey, from Australia. Runs $10-13. Reminds me a bit of a mixture of the Rosenblum cuvee and Bogle Petite Syrah. It has a kick to it. Ready for the name?

Woop-Woop. Sounds crazy. Tastes crazy. Crazy like a fox. In a real good way.

Crikey."

"Thanks for the tip. I've had Concannon Chard and Viognier before - both were great, really big whites with a lot of character. I didn't know they had a Petite Sirah as well, I will check it out.

Sure thing. My experience with the Australian Shiraz is limited to the "mega-labels" (Yellow Tail and Rosemont) - I haven't ventured much beyond them. In fact, I havent ventured much beyond that with any Australian wine - so Im definitely open for any suggestions.

Thanks"

"Petite Syrahs are a new area of exploration for us right now. The Bogle is the best buy of the category for my wine rack. Although, Concannon has a decent petite syrah as well. It is not as brambly and powerful, perhaps a touch more acid perceived, but still a bottle that regularly shares time on my rack, then suddenly disappears. It holds up with bold, spicy tomato based sauces, pizza, and beef. It does well as a stand-alone as well. The next petite I am going to try will be the Norman.

I have a short list of shiraz out of Australia that are quite good. Imagine the deep taste of Bogle petite syrah combined with the "power punch" that a Rosenblum cuvee will give you. I have a label in mind if you are at all curious."

"After reading your comment (and browsing some of your favorites and wish lists), I completely agree, we do have similar likes, and dislikes! I know exactly what you are talking about with the A-Mano, but dont let that sway you, there are some nice Primitivo out there.

I made a comment the other day about the Croation MaliPlavac. Im not sure about its availability in Michigan, but I recently learned that Zlatan's MP is available in NY/NJ (where I am from). If you can find it, I would strongly encourage giving it a try - I think you would like that as well.

Now I have a question for you.

I noticed you had Bogle Petite Sirah in your list of favorites. I've had Bogle, and enjoyed it. Could you recommend some other good Petite Sirahs? Im looking to try some others, and Bogle was the first for me."
