A deep brooding colour, herby but closed/young nose overlays a wonderful rich, full, intense, tannin licked palate. Some wonderful fruit flavours but tooo young and unmelded, tannins too forceful. potential great.

Pedra Basta 2006
A blend of Tridadeira, Aragones, Alicante Bouchet and Cabernet Sauvignon. Ripe fruit with savoury touches to the aroma, excellent balanced palate a little sweetness to the fruit. Notes ended with a scrawled 'I like this a lot!'.http://www.spittoon.biz/great_iberian_wines_from_vinot.html

A blend - which always seems to work better than single varietals from Portugal - of 40% Syrah, 40% Touriga Franca and 20% Merlot. Great fruity aroma, still fresh despite a few years of age. Lovely, soft, plummy palate with good structure and acidity. Some elegance.http://www.spittoon.biz/great_iberian_wines_from_vinot.html

A producer that all should be familiar with; seldom offering a disappointing wine. This 100% Mencia has an excellent nose, balance and a delicacy and poise that we pinpointed to violets. Ripe strawberries adds to the complexity of flavour.http://www.spittoon.biz/great_iberian_wines_from_vinot.html

A little expensive perhaps (the victim of the poor pound!) but a delicious, stylish wine. Montsant is a small region lapping around Priorat (had to look that up on an excellent map available at the tasting) that most seemed unfamiliar with. A super blend of Garnacha and Carinena from 15 - 35 year old vines.

A crowd pleaser being full, soft, flavoursome with sweet ripe fruit. Deep black-fruits, leather complexity, inky finish. Monastrell is Mouvedre. Good value

Lovely complexity and a richness that is perfectly balanced by the acidity. Nutty with hints of apricots, orange pith, peach blossom and vanilla. Smooth and highly drinkable. Alcohol 12.5%. No flabbiness, no excessive floweriness just excellent poise, balance and flavour. While others have compared this to the best Condrieu Viogniers it doesn't quite have the depth and texture of the great Rhone wines, but as it stands it is a stonker and well worth the eleven quid. http://www.spittoon.biz/domaine-saint-ferreol-viognier.htmlExcellent with Rosemary Seared Scallops With Pancetta, Salad and Hazelnuts http://www.spittoonextra.biz/rosemary_seared_scallops_with.html

Full-bodied, spice-laced palate. Nicely textured and balanced acidity. Really good, long blackberry finish with inky depths. Highly drinkable and a nice match with a beef/mushroom/tomato pasta dish enlivened with Worcester Sauce.

Give this a little time to open up and if offers an amazing, pronounced, fruit-forward aroma. The combination of Cabernet (blackberries, blackcurrants) and Carmenere (plum, herbs) works beautifully here. The palate, while offering quite the same complexity as the aroma, is nicely balanced, decently tannic but fruity with a gravelly, inky, creamy edged, finish.

A fruity, crisp, bean shoot and pea core with a touch of sherbty complexity. Light to medium bodied, fresh, clean. Lacks a little concentration and texture. Nice with a selection of cheeses.
