August 2009
One of my favorite under ten dollar house cabs. Partially owned by the Rothchilds. French in vinification, with lots of bright cherry fruit. A great pleasure for the price. If someone is having a blind tasting of cabs, sneak it in the line up. It could easily pass as a good Medoc costing three times as much.

What a great wine. A true "fat-bastard" Shiraz, from Margaret River no less. Super clean, no veggie stuff, and remarkably balanced for the heft. I don't think Spectator had their noses on right for a 88 rating. To me, this is 91, 92 action easy. I also found this on bibola.com, one of my favorite sites for juice.

To me this is one of the great values in Cali Cabs. It is big with tons of ripe fruit. I usually don't like to pay over $15 for a bottle of juice, but this one is worth it. A true fruit-forward Sonoma beast. One of the least expensive ways to access the best of California Cabernet. Drink it slowly, and let it breath for a few hours.

This has always been a favorite. I even have some bottles of 97 and 98 that keep getting better and better. The best value I have found in a classic, Hunter River Valley Shiraz. Only one problem. I am used to it being my favorite botlle under ten bucks. The listing price on this page states $12. Not good.

This wine is a revelation. It takes a half hour to open up, and then...wow. Comparable in power to a big zin or shiraz, with a monstrous midplalte, and the finish just goes on and on for nearly a minute. Dark, jammy fruit, but balanced. Incredible! I found it online a bibola.com
