Originally grown in the Southeast of France and one of the blending grapes used in the wines of Bordeaux, Malbec has turned into a premier wine of Argentina. As is the case in all of the more interesting wine regions of the world, the fruit matures and acquires the very unique qualities and flavor profile that the influence of weather and soil conditions create. In most of Argentina, and especially the areas surrounding the state of Mendoza, Malbec grows and matures with great intensity. The 2007 Huarpe Taymente Malbec is certainly an example of a 'bodegas boutique' wine... both elegant and rustic with a friendly more fruit driven style.

Silver Oak wines are supple, fruitful and deliver richness wrapped in good American oak. Critics suggest that because of its 65,000 plus case production the wine no longer merits cult status or the premium price it once fetched. I will agree that the label might not be a cult must, but it still delivers a great glass of wine; delicious and vibrant with pretty mocha cassis, plum and oak.While it's not an over-achiever in its class, it is correct and sound, and deserves better grades; after all it is Silver Oak...

I've been drinking this '07 Chard from Echeverria on the colder side, for the last month; almost non-stop. It's been great with sushi, hot and cold pasta, salads and grilled everything. The wine is very clean with subtle acidity and loaded with expressive fresh fruit... at about $11.00 it's an inexpensive luxury we all should enjoy.

Hourglass is at the premium end of California Cabernet, and at about 175.00 it's worth every cent. This is truly an almost perfect wine, you have to drink it to understand what power and elegance in wine really means. Hourglass should be kept in everyone's cellar, whether it be a walk-in cellar, a floor unit, a closet or under your bed... it is a treasure.

This is a great example of good quality and value from Chile. The Echeverria 2004 Reserva Cabernet is both friendly and with its bottle age, complex enough to engage all cab lovers. If you are a stubborn California Cabernet only type... you will be doubly surprised by the pleasure it delivers to your palate and by how little it costs. 'salud'

Cavallotto has always been a favorite producer, and in past vintages it may be said that the wine was a bit 'old school' but this '04 effort shows polish and elegance. This is a bottle that will turn a small meal or modest gathering into an occasion.

The fruit for this 2006 Shiraz is sourced from the 'Ebenezer District' of the northern Barossa which many cite as the finest area of the Valley. Glaetzer has again mastered an expressive and supple wine, and what is also another excellent homage to Judith Bishop Glaetzer.

Patz & Hall and their partners create impressive Burgundian styled Chards and Pinots that balance elegant acidity with sophisticated fruit. This 2006 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay lifts you with its aromas of lush tropical fruit, and complex range of beautiful smoky and citrus flavors. Compared to many other 'hard to find costly label' Chardonnays in this premium category, and at about $35.00 this wine is a find. What makes this wine so great is that it's fresh, distinct and truly expressive.
