Not bad for North Carolina wine. Subdued nose for a petit verdot but some slight floral notes. Flavors of ripe raspberry and shoe polish are poised against soft tannins, medium acidity and a medium finish.

This is an interesting southern Italian red made with the Gaglioppo grape. The nose is very much black licorice/anise. This hits your tongue with drying grippy tannins, macerated ripe black cherry, some leather, a touch of menthol, a high level of acidity and a medium long finish.

Really nice white Bordeaux blend of Semillon and Sauv Blanc. This has a deep yellow color in the glass. There's a nice hit of butterscotch and caramel on the nose. In the mouth there is lush notes of ripe pear, honeysuckle, a bit of that butterscotch, nice acidity, a nice mouth coating affect and a medium finish.

Pretty damn good for 100% mourvedre. The nose is a bit perfumey (?) with a touch of smoke. On the tongue is ripe blackberry, black cherry, a touch of gaminess, a bit of tar, fairly fine grained tannins and medium+ acidity. This begs for a big chunk of grilled or smoked red meat.

Not much going on with this Spanish white blend of Macabeo and Airen. There are some floral aromatics on the nose but on the palate this is somewhat flat and one dimensional. There is a bit of watered down lemon juice and maybe a touch of green apple. The acidity is decent but overall this is a fairly thin and simple wine.

A most enjoyable 2014 grenache blanc from Tablas. There's a bit of lemon and butterscotch on the nose. The palate is creamy lemon chiffon, a hint of apricot, some really nice acidity, a medium long finish and a touch of lemon drop on the back end.

Really interesting sagrantino di montefalco from Colpetrone. There's a burst of black licorice coming out of the glass. Loads of ripe dark fruit on the tongue along with earth tones, tar, black licorice, a touch of mint, extremely grippy and drying tannins and medium acidity. This is a fairly big red that needs a good bit more bottle time to resolve the tannins but hopefully not lose the fruit.

Got this '06 South African Sauv Blanc in a package bid at a charity event. Not bad, just not very good either. A bit flat and one dimensional with a fairly muted nose. The flavors that come out are not what I'd expect from any SB, no grapefruit, no lemon, just some dried pineapple, candy corn and a hit of white pepper on the back end. There's still some acidity left and a medium finish. Interesting lesson.

Very tasty Paso viognier from Adelaida. There's lemon and ripe pear on the nose. On the tongue is more ripe pear, honeysuckle, ripe stone fruits, a hint of minerality, tongue coating texture, a medium finish and medium acidity.

Excellent Willakenzie Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir. A bit herbaceous on the nose. The palate has a lot of ripe red and dark cherry with just a hint of lime. This has some really nice acidity balanced with the fruit, supple fine grained tannins and a fairly long finish.
