Love Elisabetta Fagiuoli's whites, this red is a bit on the tannic and rustic side. Hints of black licorice on the nose. The fruit is somewhat hidden and there's a lot of earth and leather on the tongue with grippy, drying tannins, medium plus acidity and a long finish.

Nice, bright, fresh red from Portugal. This is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro and Jaen. The nose is a bit syrah like, black cherry and a touch of smoke. In the mouth there are flavors of macerated black cherry, some green plum, a touch of leather, fine grained tannins, nice acidity and a medium long finish. Excellent QPR at ~$13.

Really enjoying this excellent Tablas Esprit de Beaucastel! Really dark, chewy berry fruit on the nose with some savoriness. Loads of ripe, crushed black cherry, notes of black licorice that just go on and on, a touch of mint, and a bit of freshly tanned leather. There are well resolved, fine tannins, tongue coating viscosity, medium plus acidity and a medium long finish.

Another fantastic bottle of Scherrer Syrah! Interesting note of cocoa on the nose. The palate is layered full of ripe macerated black cherry, rhubarb, a hint of brown necco wafer, but without the black pepper bite that syrah can have. This is a very well balanced wine with medium plus acidity and a fairly long finish.

Really nice Napa Cab Franc from Smith Wooton. This is fairly dark for 100% cab franc with loads of dark ripe fruit on the nose. Ripe blackberry, a hint of tar and leather, some baking spices, fine grained, fairly resolved tannins, medium acidity and a medium long finish. This paired pretty nicely with a crock pot bbq brisket.
